About the book
John Prevas began this project with extensive manuscript research in Paris, studying Greek and Latin texts relating to Hannibal. He then spent several summers climbing the major passes in the southern French Alps that historians have proposed as Hannibal’s route into Italy.
A combination of scholarship and exploring the actual terrain makes this book stand apart. Rather than treating the debate on Hannibal’s pass over the Alps as purely academic, John Prevas tested the various routes proposed against the mountain landscape itself.
